Faryal Bhatti was accused of blasphemy by officials at Sir Syed Girls High School in Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) colony in Havelian, near Abbottabad. The accusation was made after she misspelled a word in a class test on a poem praising the Prophet Muhammad.

She was reportedly beaten by her teacher over the mistake before the school took the decision to expel her. A rally was held by local Muslims demanding that criminal charges be brought against Bhatti.

At Friday prayers last week, imams said her entire family should be punished. The decision to expel her was taken by officials following a meeting with the girl and her mother in which Bhatti apologised and tried to explain that it had been a simple spelling mistake.

The girl’s mother, a nurse, has since been moved by the authorities from her place of work at a nearby hospital to another hospital further away from the school. Wilson Chowdhry, head of the British Pakistani Christian Association, said this was not an isolated incident and that Christians in Pakistani schools are forced to take Islamic lessons and face pressure to convert or take part in Islamic worship. He said Bhatti’s expulsion “demonstrates that too often there is little difference between the ‘mainstream’ and ‘extremist’ educational establishments in Pakistan”.

He criticised the British Government’s decision to continue investing millions of pounds in Pakistan’s education system when it “routinely and systematically discriminates against and oppresses children of minority religions, and effectively increases Islamic extremist practices”. “Without extremely stringent controls and monitoring, it is highly likely that even without any of the regular brand of corruption, Cameron will have pledged hundreds of millions of tax-payers money to an education system that effectively furthers Islamic extremism and imperialism at the expense of minority faith children,” he said.

The Centre for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement, which provides free legal support to persecuted Christians in Pakistan, has also condemned the blasphemy claims against Bhatti. Its UK coordinator Nasir Saeed said: “The spelling mistake that Bhatti made was a matter of adding one dot to a word. Just a single dot has made her a criminal and changed her life. “It is a mistake she may have to pay for the rest of her life as blasphemy charges carry a terrible stigma. “This is yet another demonstration of how wildly Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are being abused to persecute Christians.

“The Pakistani government should reform the laws immediately to protect the lives of Christians and other minorities who have clearly committed no crime.”

There is no difference where these people live, because they are still our brothers, sisters and daughters in Christ Jesus. If we did this to a Muslim family in the UK there would be an uproar! And yet it seems perfectly acceptable to persecute, beat, torture and kill Christians in other countries, while we stand by and watch.

The time is coming soon where the world’s views will turn against the Christian faith in this country, as well, ( we can see the prelude to this already) so we need to prepare ourselves to make a stand for Jesus and to take action in cases like this.

So it seems that the government can’t stop the protests and they also can’t go in and kill everyone so those sneaky bastards and injuring protesters and beating them and when medical attention is required the docters are told not to help them. In an attempt to scare people and for them to stop protesting because they’ll end up kill or beaten up and left dieing.

So 20 medics that helped peace-full protesters where sentenced to 5-15 years, 13 of them got 13 and 7 of them got 10 years they where all accused of crime against the state.

Twenty Bahraini medics who treated activists wounded during anti-government protests were jailed for between five and 15 years in sentences that were immediately denounced by medical bodies and human rights groups around the world.

The sentences were handed down by a military court set up to handle the trials, which stemmed from an Arab spring-inspired uprising in the country in February and March. It was crushed with the help of armies from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states. Thirteen of the doctors and nurses received sentences of 15 years in prison, while another seven received terms of five to 10 years.

All of the accused were charged with committing crimes against the state, during an uprising they insist was peaceful and popularly inspired.

Most worked at the Salmaniya Medical Centre in Manama, which became a focal point of the tiny Gulf kingdom’s uprising. Government officials claimed it had been transformed into a base for a plot to overthrow the 200-year-old monarchy.

The formal charges were for stealing medicine, possessing weapons and occupying a government hospital. The medics were also accused of “inciting hatred to the regime and insulting it, instigating hatred against another sect and obstructing the implementation of law, destroying public property and taking part in gatherings aimed at jeopardising the general security and committing crimes.”

The doctors, all of whom denied the charges, were among dozens arrested for joining protests led by Bahrain‘s Shia majority against the government headed by the country’s ruling Sunni minority.

The protests were quickly cast by Bahrain’s government as a sectarian plot ordered by Iran. The crackdown that followed the demonstrations led to the imposition of martial law and the Gulf Co-operation Council sending troops to the island state.

Amnesty International described the sentences as ludicrous. “It appears that the real reason for targeting these health workers was the fact that they denounced the government crackdown on protesters in interviews to international media,” said the group’s Africa and Middle East deputy director, Philip Luther. “The ruling government clearly wants to send a message that anybody perceived as advocating political reforms will be dealt with severely.”

British Foreign secretary William Hague led the international condemnation. “These sentences appear disproportionate to the charges brought,” he said. “These are worrying developments that could undermine the Bahraini government’s moves towards dialogue and the reform needed for long-term stability in Bahrain.”

Several of the doctors, interviewed by the Guardian this year, say they were cast into a political role by an increasingly violent crackdown launched by government troops in mid-February in an attempt to oust protesters from their hub in central Manama — a roundabout then known as Pearl Square.

A medic who was sentenced on Thursday said the events of 17 February – a particularly savage assault on the roundabout – had changed the nature of the uprising.

“That day changed my life,” the medic said. “I felt bad seeing my own people treated like animals.

“In April, my fears came true and I was taken from my house by more than 30 masked men with guns in front of my son, whom I had to leave alone.

“I was physically and emotionally abused, blindfolded and handcuffed. They beat me – with their hands and legs, with a hose, and gave me electric shocks. They threatened to rape me. They threatened to kill me so that I would confess to false accusations. I was sexually harassed and humiliated.”

Britain joined international bodies in attacking a lack of transparency in the military court, which was set up using emergency powers. “I call on the Bahraini judicial authorities to follow due process carefully and transparently. Cases before the special tribunals should be transferred to regular civilian courts,” said Hague.

In a separate case before the military court, a man was sentenced to death for running down and killing a policeman. The sentences came a day after the tribunal upheld an appeal by 21 activists, including senior figures from the main opposition bloc, al-Wefaq, against life sentences they received for allegedly plotting to overthrow the monarchy.

Around 30 people have been killed in a series of clashes with security forces this year. At least 1,000 people have been detained. Bahrain’s king, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, called for dialogue during the summer. This was immediately boycotted by opposition groups.

He has also announced a commission of inquiry into claims of mass discrimination against the country’s Shia majority, which is banned from much of the establishment.

Hundreds of Shia demonstrators who joined sweeping pro-democracy demonstrations in February have complained that they have since been sacked or suspended from their jobs in both the private and public sector.

The incident occurred after the couple was spotted by a police squad patrolling the Saint-Josse community – a neighborhood where many immigrants live, reports Belga news agency.

One of the officers demanded the woman’s ID and wanted to see her face for proper identification. The husband became angry and threatened the officers with death should they ever come close to his wife again.

The ensuing quarrel quickly became a fistfight, which ended with one of the policemen receiving mild injuries.

The 37-year-old assailant was detained and charged with attacking an officer of the law. His wife will be issued a fine for wearing the forbidden garment.

Belgium banned wearing of clothes that hide face, such as the burqa or the niqab, in June. Violations carry a 137.5 euro fine and up to seven days in jail.

France was the first European country to ban the face-concealing Muslim garments in April.

OTTAWA — A human-rights group says agents from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service interrogated a Libyan-Canadian while he spent eight years in one of Moammar Gadhafi’s prisons.

Human Rights Watch says Mustafa Krer, 46, was detained by Gadhafi from 2002 to 2010 for alleged ties to a Libyan resistance organization that has been linked to al-Qaida.

Krer is quoted as saying Canadian interrogators visited him about three times between 2003 and 2005.

The group says CSIS agents questioned him jointly with a team of Libyans in the room.

While the former prisoner does not claim mistreatment during the CSIS interrogations, he says his Libyan captors beat him repeatedly.

Andrea Prasow, senior counter-terrorism counsel at Human Rights Watch, calls the allegation troubling and says Canadian agents must have known their Libyan counterparts were involved in torture.

Human Rights Watch is calling on CSIS to come clean on its role in Krer’s detention in Libya.

(CNN) – The home of a Syrian musician’s family was ransacked this week, an act viewed as further intimidation by security forces angry at his views about the government.

Malek Jandali, a renowned composer and pianist in Syria, told CNN Saturday that he learned from close sources that two armed security officers broke into his family’s Homs residence and looted and destroyed furniture. The house was empty because his parents had fled to the United States.

Jandali, an American citizen living in Atlanta, says he believes security forces targeted his family because of his pro-opposition performances. He said he hoped his music would promote harmony, peace and understanding, but he believes a July performance in Washington prompted thugs to assault his parents.

He says the Thursday night break-in was retaliation for the publication of his parents’ photos after the beating. Images posted on Facebook showed evidence of a brutal beating.

Jandali thinks the forces didn’t know his parents had fled their home.

“When they couldn’t find anybody, they looted the house,” he said. A security camera in the house recorded their movements, Jandali said.

The Syrian government crackdown against protesters began in mid-March, with death tolls estimated to be high as 3,000. The government’s stance has been widely deplored over the world.

The office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights said Friday that “prominent human rights defenders, inside and outside the country” and “families and sympathizers of the protesters” are reported to have been targeted by security forces.

Malek Jandali says his parents — Dr. Mamoun Jandali, 73, and Linah Droubi 66 — have been among such family members targeted.

Dr. Mamoun Jandali was bound, gagged and beaten by three men in July.

The July attack unfolded as Mamoun Jandali was carrying groceries from his car to his home in Homs.

A man grabbed him from behind and asked him to help care for someone who had been injured.

When the surgeon, agreed to do so, the man spoke into his cell phone and said to bring the patient. Moments later, two other men showed up unaccompanied by any patient.

They handcuffed the doctor, covered his mouth and nose with duct tape, then took him upstairs. Linah was in bed at the time.

The three men beat the father and pummeled the mother brutally, causing severe injuries to her face. They locked them both in their bathroom, and ransacked the house.

They were bleeding and stuck in the dark during the ransacking,

Mamoun held onto his cell phone during the ordeal. After the attackers left, Linah grabbed the cell phone and called relatives. They in turn called political security forces, the only ones who could unlock the handcuffs.

They decided to leave Syria after they were assaulted last summer. They moved from one house to the next for a while to stay safe. With the help of the U.S. State Department, they were able to obtain visas to get to the United States.

Mamoun arrived in Atlanta a few days ago. Linah arrived in Detroit a few weeks ago where she is staying with another son, Rami Jandali, a prosthodontist. She is getting medical treatment and she will eventually go to Atlanta to reunite with her husband.

Mamoun Jandali told CNN the assault was “unexpected.”

“I thank God that they didn’t kill us,” he said. “They referred to my son Malek” and said “this is a lesson to teach you how to raise your son Malek.”

Asked about life in Syria, the doctor described a country in turmoil.

Citing reports of wounded demonstrators seized by security forces, Jandali said he has been asked to treat people in their homes because they are afraid to go to the hospitals.

He said he “can’t imagine” there would be people who would force doctors to stop anesthesia and end operations and then take away the wounded. A recent Human Rights Watch report has accounts of security force hospital raids.

“People are angry because there is no human rights,” he said. “The regime is very brutal in its behavior with the demonstrators.”

He thinks the problems there can be solved if the ruling Baath Party’s power becomes limited and President Bashar al-Assad resigns.

“Personally, I think this regime will not respond to any advice, to any statement telling him to step down,” he said. “They think they have this land as a heritage.”

He said the economy is worsening and soldiers are leaving the army. He ponders the specter of more instability.

“If it does go in this way, we will have civil war or some countries from outside will come and help one group against the other,” he said.
